Marc Lore has utilised artificial intelligence and a blood test to guide his dietary choices throughout the past year, as he mentioned. He expressed his intention to extend this approach to his Wonder food halls later this year during a podcast conversation. With over 100 food halls established, Wonder has also made strategic acquisitions of Grubhub and Blue Apron.
The CEO of Wonder, Marc Lore, a serial entrepreneur, disclosed that he has been relying on AI to manage his daily meal plans based on blood test data for the last year. In an episode of Semafor’s “Compound Interest” podcast released on Tuesday, Lore shared that every meal, except when dining out, is directed by AI algorithms. The AI system not only planned his breakfasts, lunches, and dinners but also ensured his health and monitored his blood biomarkers effectively.
Initially finding the concept of relinquishing control over meal decisions strange, Lore admitted that the AI-curated meals were consistently healthier than those he would have chosen himself. He expressed the desire to introduce a beta test of this model at Wonder this autumn. However, Wonder did not provide any comments regarding these plans.
Since its inception, Wonder has expanded to around 120 locations, primarily in the Northeast region, and made significant acquisitions in the form of Grubhub and Blue Apron. Lore revealed plans to offer a personalised service where users can set budget constraints and health objectives to receive automated deliveries from Wonder Food Halls or even portioned groceries for preparing specific meals in the future.
Wonder is Marc Lore’s latest business venture following successful endeavours such as Diapers.com and Jet.com, which were sold to Amazon and Walmart, respectively. After departing from Walmart in 2021, Lore initiated an innovative project involving food trucks serving gourmet meals in New Jersey suburbs before transitioning to the current food hall concept.
Bloomberg reported that Wonder secured substantial funding during its recent financing round, valuing the company at approximately $7 billion. Additionally, Lore mentioned that AI technology is being employed for Wonder Create, enabling influencers to develop their restaurant concepts for preparation at Wonder’s food halls. These locations already offer dishes from various restaurant brands supported by celebrity chefs.
Lore emphasised the advantage of influencers directing their followers to wonderful establishments without requiring additional marketing efforts.
