Electronic Arts (EA) has collaborated with Stability AI, the developer behind Stable Diffusion, in a joint effort to create generative AI tools that will expedite the process of game development. In the announcement, Steve Kestell, who serves as the Head of Technical Art for EA SPORTS, referred to these tools as “smarter paintbrushes.” According to Engadget’s report, these innovative tools empower creatives by enabling them to articulate their creative visions effectively. Initially, the focus of the “smarter paintbrushes” being developed by EA and Stability AI is on generating textures and in-game assets. EA’s objective is to produce “Physically Based Rendering materials” using these new tools, which are designed to generate 2D textures that uphold precise color and light accuracy in any gaming environment. The company also envisions utilizing AI technology to visualize entire 3D environments based on specific prompts, allowing artists to guide the creative process of generating game content.
