NASA AI Model That Found 370 Exoplanets Now Digs Into TESS Data

NASA has introduced ExoMiner++, an enhanced open-source software tool that harnesses artificial intelligence to aid in the discovery of new transiting exoplanets within NASA’s mission data. With over 6,000 exoplanets already identified by scientists, a significant number were detected through data obtained from NASA’s Kepler and TESS missions. The recently updated ExoMiner++ has pinpointed 7,000 potential exoplanet candidates using TESS data. This advanced tool is available for free download on GitHub, empowering researchers to search for planets within the expanding public data repository of TESS. By allowing researchers to reproduce findings and conduct in-depth analyses of the data, ExoMiner++ expedites scientific breakthroughs. The forthcoming iteration of ExoMiner++ will enhance its functionality to detect signals directly from raw data. NASA’s upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will contribute additional data for exoplanet identification, further augmenting ExoMiner++’s capabilities. The promotion of open-source science and software is vital for propelling advancements in the field of exoplanet research and maximizing the effectiveness of NASA’s scientific endeavors.
